This track totally slipped my mind til 2 weeks ago when I ran into Keith Morris in Austin TX and saw him front his current band ( OFF!, which looked like this ). Ruined Eye was the group I put together to record Land Of Treason ( the original is the third track on the Germs’ only album, 1979′s (GI) ) for Germs ( Tribute ) : A Small Circle Of Friends in 1996.

I played guitar on this for my old friend Sid in a practice space in L.A. – it was a demo at the time, one of his first, but here it is on his album, which came out this year. I really liked doing this : after years of playing ” big ” guitar, it was fun to play as ” small ” as possible, a Telecaster through an old Fender Vibro-Champ.

I made this little thing at a friends’ house back in .. I don’t remember, early 2000s – back when the first ” Pro Tools Lite ” came out. I had a really cheap little tube mic pre ( dig the layers of hiss ), a Shure SM57, a little amp ( not to play through, but to slap for a reverb-y percussion sound ) and whatever instruments were lying around .. well, okay, the nice old Fender Rhodes electric piano I played wasn’t just lying around. I really like this – my caffeinated attempt to channel Joe Zawinul noodling as his spacecraft falls slowly into the sun .. know what I mean?
