HELL TO THE YES. I’ve been a fan of Black Mountain since I got their debut album in 2005, but this new one really shifts things into overdrive — the sound is still dark and majickal and there’s still plenty of heavy guitar action, but a move by the keyboards into the forefront pushes the band towards Deep Purple/ Hawkwind supersonic space rock territory. I saw these guys wreck it in DC a week ago, and I’m going again in a couple of days.

Kellam Avenue, Los Angeles * 2002. Look at those colors! I might have to go dig that thing out and shoot with it again.
