A couple of changes here. Slight ones, but this is the first time I’ve messed with the features of this site since I put it up four and a half years ago ( when I look at my initial posts, it seems more like ten years ago — you can get the feeling, sometimes, that you are not learning anything new or growing or becoming someone else, but a look at your digital past, even the recent part, will quickly disprove that notion ).
I’m keeping the look and layout the same. I wanted, at the beginning, something very simple, and I still do, and I don’t think it looks too dated, yet. Black, because that’s the color of my soul because it makes images and type pop. Orange, because, Halloween, that’s why. And blue because it’s pretty.
You will notice, to the left, there’s now a Twitter button. I was, initially, like many people I know, skeptical about Twitter, but I kept coming back because friends and also famous people who I admire wouldn’t let up about the future of social media and it’s so much better and etc. and etc. and – I finally started to get it. And I like making those Vines, I do.
At the lower left, there’s now a ” jump to ” archive, which I’ve been meaning to add for quite some time. Thanks, web guy.
Summer in the city = here.
I found this in a little album of snapshots, given to me by a fan, most likely. I’m putting this in 1993, based on various clues – cheap boots from the army/navy, my blue Jackson with the gold hardware ( never should have sold it ), my hair, art on the bass drum. We were still using our own lights, power strips all over the stage. Still in a van, for sure.
A photo of Bobby Hackney of Death ( by now, you know what Death was, and you may even have seen the movie ) from My Dad Was In A Band. Another great recent posting there is My Dad Is Dee Snider.
I taped this off the radio the other day ( ha ha, ” taped “, ” radio ” — but no, really ). Alex McMurray is often described as a New Orleans institution who plays Tom Waits-y music, which I bet is tiresome for him, but, hey, they have to write something. This is him playing live at WWNO, doing an off-the-top-of-his-head clean version of a song which I understand is normally quite filthy.

Well, this is the most charming thing I’ve seen all week. These two guys know more about music than most of the rest of us put together.
My man, the viking of Sixth Avenue. When I don’t like music, when I like music, when I want to hear something which exists outside of time. In the rain, when the sun’s out, morning, noon, night, snaketime – that’s when it’s time for Moondog.
