” The rebellious Zephyr team members stood in stark contrast to other competitors with their wildly untamed hair, matching navy blue shirts, torn pants, and scuffed-up shoes. As Tony Alva recalled, It was just a funky, funky look – we kind of psyched out everyone there before we even started skating against them. The Zephyr team’s transgressive style extended to their skating technique, which was low to the ground, explosive, aggressive, and faster than anything seen before on a skateboard. Of the Z-Boys, Peggy Oki, the only female member of the team, was Zephyr’s sole first-place finisher at the competition. ”
